goth sunflower

they’re not the only sunflowers blooming in my garden right now, but these “chianti” variety sunflowers are so striking they take all the attention. the petal color changes depending on the light—sometimes almost purplish, sometimes deep red, sometimes lighter reddish-orange. the veins and stems are dark purple. the flowers are on the small side but with many multiple buds. thank you so much to angela for sharing the seeds. i know these flowers are special to her, and now they’re special to me too.

  2. Those are gorgeous. And amazing. And my favorite color (the red), so there must be something about Angelas that draws us to flowers like this, because I would LOVE to have them in my garden, too.

  3. Oh wow, those are beautiful. I love dark and deep colours in general, and I love plants with colours that are unusual for that plant, and this sunflower is both. I'm going to have to add that to my list for next year.

  5. goneferal--mostly good! plenty of challenges but overall i'm happy...might be time for another garden tour.

angela--haha, maybe so. i would offer to send you some seeds but unfortunately it's pretty much the only thing i'm growing that happens to be a hybrid.

jess--same here--i would love to have a garden completely full of veggies and flowers of unusual colors.

andrea--that's what i thought too when i first saw them on angela's blog.
