falling too far too fast

the temperature recently dropped over 40 degrees in one week. i am indignant. i want some fall color, but it needs to be warm enough that i can go out and enjoy it. i'm pulling for an indian summer.

andy was chilly so he put on his pretties.

the bell pepper and squash plants all wilted and died, along with one of the eggplants. pumpkin, gourd, banana peppers, radishes, carrots, parsley, oregano, rosemary, and some tomatoes are still going.

the tomatoes don't look so good though. some of them split after all the rain, and others are just kind of mushy from the cold. the plants are about half-wilted, and it's extra sad because there are still hundreds of green tomatoes on the vines.

a lot of flowers are still blooming...including these marigolds that i thought were dead long ago after being nibbled to stalks by the birds.

i at least got a few pictures of these nice, plump sunflower seeds before they were eaten by squirrels and birds...
