new belgium both streamlined and leveled the playing field in the slow ride this year by providing bikes for the competitors, rather than having everyone use their own bikes, which in the past had to be brought in and lifted over peoples' heads, creating more congestion, and creating unfair advantage for people with certain types of bikes. the bikes they provided were probably not totally ideal...in fact one competitor actually bent the frame of his assigned bike during the competition, they had to bring in a new one.
The Gnome lost in the first round, much to the dismay of the audience.
