welcome to the first installment of garden fail friday, a weak-ly feature where i’ll be examining all my gardening blunders, thus merging three of my passions: blogging, gardening, and making fun of myself.i’d love to turn this into a widespread blog phenomenon, a la garden bloggers bloom day--so, using that as a model, if anyone else has a garden fail to share just post it on your blog, let me know and i’ll link back to it here. post a story, a story with photos, or if you have one awe-inspiring image that emblemizes your fail without the need for words, go for it. and it doesn’t have to be on friday. also, if you want to use the “garden fail” logo in your post, be my guest--just left click on the photo, then right click on it and “save target as.”
here’s my fail o’ the day:
watermelons. sweet, juicy 40-pounders. can’t see them? that’s because i planted them in the middle of some raspberry canes. raspberries don’t get very big, right? they don’t turn into massive fucking bushes that shade everything beneath them, do they? fail.

haha, i agree. although it's pretty fun squeezing stuff into small spaces...it's a challenge and it forces me to be creative, for better or worse.
I like this idea. My most basic blunder this year was sowing pumpkins and courgettes - successfully - but not labelling them when I potted them on. Doh! Couldn't tell em apart. I guess I'll find out soon enough...
Awesome! Great intro pic, I love it. So far my biggest fail was mislabeling the tomatoes although I think we have them sorted out. Let's see, we planted a bunch of peppers and tomatoes in partial sun last year +1 fail. Oh, and I planted corn way too close together so we only got 2 ears out of 65 plants!
camilla--that's not bad! if that's your only garden fail you should be totally proud of yourself. plus you get a surprise out of it, which is fun.
goneferalinid--how frustrating about the corn! that sucks...hope it doesn't happen to me this year, mine are pretty close together too.
this is awesome. i love it. i tried to grow a raspberry...it completely died like, in 3 days after i planted it. i was so sad:(
aw, i’m sorry to hear that. i’ll happily give you some of my raspberry plants this fall or next spring (whenever is best to dig them up)...they send up tons of new canes every spring, attempting to gain territory...this is the first time i haven’t eradicated them but next year i’ll have to work just to keep them in their place.
